PREGNANCY - 15 weeks with baby #2

How far along: 15 weeks

Gender: finding out at 20 weeks

Best moment this week: I can't say that I feel actual movement yet, still haven't had those first flutters. But I can definitely feel when the baby is stretching out or changing position... I can feel it pushing out, and if I feel my belly with my hand, I can feel a super hard spot... a head or butt, or something! So that's been fun, and should hopefully get me by until I can actually feel some real movements in there!

Worst moment this week: I got my dreaded, first sunburn of the year. Clearly, my skin is way more sensitive when I'm pregnant, because I wasn't out in the sun for long, but my poor skin fried. So bad. So painful. So not letting it ever happen again.

Cravings: Still really craving veggies, mostly raw broccoli and dip. Pineapple has also been a recent favorite of mine lately.

Looking forward to: Feeling movement! Ugh I can't wait to feel those little flutters and movements!

Surviving the First Trimester

surviving the first trimester and no more morning sickness
Ahhhh, the joy of finding out your pregnant!
So exciting and blissful....
until a few weeks later when you're constantly on the verge of puking your brains out.

This time around, the first trimester was SO different than my pregnancy with Gavin.
Unfortunately, I seemed to be more nauseous this time around, but it also went away faster than it did when I was pregnant with Gavin. So not sure if this time around was really better or worse in the long run...

With this pregnancy, from about week 5, until week 10 I was nauseous almost all day. Nausea kicked in around mid-morning and lasted until I went to bed. Sometimes I would even wake up in the middle of the night and feel sick. I never actually threw up (yay!) but I also spent almost the entire day feeling like I needed to... (yuck).

Pregnancy sickness is hard enough on it's own,
but now when you have to add a toddler to the mix, it makes it that much harder to deal with.

So, I figured I would share with you some of the things I found to be helpful this time around through my first trimester!

1. Small, healthy snacks.
Sometimes easier said than done, I know. BUT, it was so hard for me to eat when I was feeling sick. I knew I needed to, but it was so hard to find anything that sounded good, and if I ate too big of a meal, I would feel 10x worse. At the same time, if I let myself get too hungry, that only made the nausea worse too! I realized I needed to stick to small snack foods throughout the day, which for me was usually crackers, fruit, and veggies. Then at mealtimes, I could eat whatever amount was most comfortable.

2. Stay hydrated.
This first trimester was weird for me, in the sense that even water didn't sound good. I usually drink tons of water of every day, but all of a sudden water sounded awful. I knew I still needed it, so I would add fruit to give it a different flavor, which worked for me. I also found that Bai drinks were a total life saver! On some days when I could hardly even eat crackers, I could at least drink a Bai, that had flavor and kept me hydrated! Blueberry was my favorite during those tough weeks.

3. Ginger tea with lemon.
This one takes the cake for best nausea remedy for me!
WOW. I was kind of amazed it worked as well as it did.
I bought some organic ginger tea, not knowing how it would taste, as I've never had it before!
So I went home right away, got myself a nice toasty cup of tea... took a sip, and YUCK!
This stuff tasted awful, in my opinion.
So I added some honey... that didn't really help.
I made myself choke it down, and what do ya know, it helped my nausea! I felt so much better!
So the next time around, I made my tea, and this time, I added a couple lemon slices.
SOOOO MUCH BETTER! (again, in my opinion)
And again, it helped my nausea so much! I could tell a huge difference after drinking a glass of this tea! I still was never a huge fan of the taste, but it really would seem to help me feel better.

4. Relax.
This one is probably the hardest, when you have a toddler at home with you all day.
My "relax" time, was basically nap time, and after Gavin went to bed....so I wasn't left with much time to "relax".
But, when I could find the time, I took advantage of it, because it was SO necessary.
Instead of spending nap time doing laundry, cleaning, and doing things that I typically can't do while Gavin's awake... I took total advantage of those 2-3 hours where I could kick my feet up and close my eyes.
It was so needed, and such a lifesaver on some days.

I know it's a short list, but these are the things that I really noticed help me get through!
Here's hoping this helps a mama out there struggling with that dreaded first trimester nausea!!!

Playroom Makeover

This post is sadly, one that I forgot about until now! (oops!!)
We actually remodeled this room last year, April of 2015.
I've had this saved as a "draft" until now, so I'm finally getting around to adding the finished photos, and sharing it with you!
So here it is:

Before our playroom was a "playroom", it was a room that we never really used.
Aaron did his workouts in this room, but other than that it really had no specific use...as you can see.

Before Photos:

Before
Before... (the carpet that was on the stairs was different than the
original carpet in the playroom- it was just as nasty though.)

After Photos:

Everything We Did:

-Painted trim & doors white
-Painted/updated door hardware
-Painted walls
-Replaced carpet in playroom & on stairs
-Painted stair skirt board white
-New decor & furnishings

Where Is It From:

-We made the storage/entertainment center ourselves
-I made the Scrabble Tile wall art
-All other wall art is from Hobby Lobby
-Kids table is from Ikea- I ordered it off Amazon for just under $50. I stained it a dark walnut color myself.

PREGNANCY - 14 weeks with baby #2

How far along: 14 weeks

Gender: finding out at 20 weeks

Total weight gain so far: 0.4 lbs as of last week at my doctor appointment.

Maternity clothes: JUST starting to bust out the maternity tops...

Sleep: I have been sleeping AWESOME!!! We've also been stupid busy the past 2 weeks... so that might be why...

Best moment this week: About 2 weeks ago we bought a new house!!...which means a few days later we listed our house (for sale by owner)! We just accepted an offer yesterday, and officially sold our house!!!! The best part about that, is the most stressful part is over!! Hallelujah!!

Worst moment this week: Gavin has been super cranky the past few days. Just super irritable, and it couldn't have come at a worse time, with the craziness and stress of trying to sell the house/do house showings, and on top of that, just being exhausted still from pregnancy... it's been a pretty tough week. But we're trying to focus on the positive, and super exciting things going on right now, instead of focusing on how crazy this crabby toddler is driving us......

Cravings: Broccoli and dill dip, and veggies in general.

Looking forward to: A relaxing weekend, most likely spent poolside, trying to unwind from a crazy past two weeks!!!

PREGNANCY - 12 Weeks with baby #2

How far along: 12 weeks

Gender: ????

Weight gain: Won't know until next doctor appointment... I don't have a scale at home! But holy ****, my belly popped so early!!! I seriously was not this big with Gavin until like 16-17 weeks! I can't even suck it in anymore- so there's just no more hiding this thing unless I can find some super loose, flowy tops!

Sleep: This past week has been weird... I've had super vivid dreams, 3 or 4 a night, and I wake up after each one. It's super random... not sure if I can blame it on hormones or not, but either way it's strange, and I haven't been sleeping as good as I had been the past couple weeks.

Looking forward to: FINALLY TELLING EVERYONE!!!! My next doctor appointment is in one week, so we're waiting until after that appointment to tell everyone. :)

PREGNANCY - 11 Weeks with baby #2

How far along: 11 weeks

Gender: ????

Weight gain: Don't know because we don't have a scale at home and I never weigh myself! Guess I'll find out at our next appointment :)

Maternity clothes: For sure. Maternity pants... still haven't busted out the maternity tops yet though.

Sleep: I've actually had good sleep this last week- I've been really tired lately and have totally been taking advantage of Gavin's nap time in the afternoon... sneaking in some little naps myself!

Miss anything: We've had some really nice weather lately, and I really missed being able to crack open a Red's...  :(

Looking forward to: Still anxiously awaiting our next doctor appointment. I also really can't wait to be able to spill the beans and tell people! Especially since this belly is becoming quite tricky to hide...

PREGNANCY - 10 Weeks with Baby #2

How far along: 10 weeks

Gender: won't know until 20 weeks

Weight gain: None yet ...and won't know until our next doctor appointment because I DO NOT weight myself at home. I really don't worry about weight, I try to stay active and eat healthy, and I don't worry about the number on the scale!

Maternity clothes: My belly popped so early this time around! By 8 weeks my stomach was popping out enough that my regular jeans were no longer an option. I slightly feared twins!!... I resorted to either sweat pants, my one pair of maternity leggings, or yoga pants (which were all fine by me) ;) I have SO missed maternity clothes! Sooooo comfy! I haven't busted out the maternity shirts yet, because I have enough flowy tops that should get me through for awhile.

Sleep: Sleep during this first trimester hasn't been so great - but most of that can be attributed to the big brother Gavin, who reverted back to being a not so great sleeper. I find that throughout the night my low back gets sore, so I've already been using a big ol' pillow propped in-between my legs, and that seems to help.

Best moment so far: Our first doctor appointment (at 9 weeks) and that first ultrasound! I LOVE all of our baby appointments! It's always so crazy to see this tiny little baby in there on that ultrasound screen for the first time! In the first trimester it's so weird for me, because besides the nausea, it just doesn't seem like I'm pregnant. You're belly seems mostly just bloated, and you don't feel any baby movements, so it just never seems very real until that first appointment. To finally see that itsy-bitsy baby in there, it's such a wonderful, exciting feeling! OH, and of course, hearing that little heart beat - literally nothing better than that sound.

Worst moment so far: Overall just the nausea. It kicked in around week 5, and would start around 1-2pm every day. Then at about week 6 it would hit me by mid-morning every day. I would feel so nauseous, I constantly felt like I had to puke- but I never actually did. I would have to force myself to eat, even just tiny snacks like crackers. Breakfasts were my main source of nutrition for those few weeks!! By week 8, I noticed my nausea would come and go...I would feel good for a couple days, and then the next few days would be HORRIBLE, then I would feel good again for a couple days, and then the nausea would come back worse than ever! That nasty little cycle lasted about 2 weeks. Then by week 10, I noticed I would feel really good throughout the day, I could eat normal and there was really no nausea, but then it would usually hit me after dinner, around 7ish.

Miss anything: I miss Gavin being able to crawl all over me, rough house and wrestle, and not having to worry about it! Now I'm so careful when he's climbing on me, because I'm so protective of the little baby bump!

Cravings: I haven't had any real crazy cravings, it's been more like only one thing will sound good for a meal. From about weeks 5-7 the only thing that ever sounded good was Panera Bread's chicken caesar salad and creamy chicken wild rice soup. I don't even want to know how many times we ordered take out from them throughout that time-frame ... I crave salads a lot.

Aversions: From about week 5-8, I could not drink plain water, which is crazy for me, because I usually drink so much water every day! Just all of a sudden I couldn't drink just water, I had to mix fruit in it. Around week 8 that went away, and I could drink plain water just fine (so weird). The one thing that almost makes me sick to even think about, is bacon. Even turkey bacon, which I like better than regular bacon, I just can't do it anymore... even the smell makes me feel sick. I've noticed meats, like chicken and beef just doesn't usually sound good to me, which is so crazy because we usually eat chicken at least 3-4 times a week! So it's been hard trying to have a healthy, well balanced diet when the normal things we eat, just won't sound good.

Sickness: Since I already explained most of that above, I'll compare this pregnancy to when I was pregnant with Gavin. With Gavin, from 6-12 weeks I was nauseous every day like clockwork from 4pm until I went to bed. I would feel so nauseous, I constantly felt like I would have to throw up, but I never actually did. At week 12, I felt good for 3 days, so I was all happy thinking that the sickness was over...then it hit me again, for about 4 days, and by week 13 it went away and stayed away!! Woo Hoo! This time around, I was sick a lot more during the day than I was with Gavin. I've also noticed my sickness started to ease up around week 9, and was totally gone around week 10.

Looking forward to: Our next doctor appointment and hearing the heartbeat... it never gets old and I'm always anxiously awaiting our next baby appointment :)

Gavin Has a Brother or Sister on The Way!!!!!

We are so excited to be adding to our little family!...and to finally be able to spill the beans! (although there's something fun about keeping it a secret for awhile!)

Our sweet baby #2 is due December 8th, and I am currently 13 weeks along.

I can't wait for Gavin to have a little buddy, whether it's a sister or a brother- I can't wait to see how they bond with each other!
(we'll find out the gender around 20 weeks)

I really can't wait to have a little newborn to snuggle on those cold, snowy December nights!

I also plan on doing weekly pregnancy updates, and baby bump pictures :)
Those are on the way!
